By Amanda Bog
Midwifery is something that is often compared to and used in relation to nursing today. As many nurses have the opportunity to choose an angle for their degree and midwifery is often an option a nurse has during their schooling. Midwifery is a certified and government regulated position just as nursing, although many people are still unsure what midwives are and if they are safe to use.

Midwifery is a professional career that does require schooling and every qualification a nurse has. Nurses today can choose to branch out into the field of midwifery if they are interested in helping new mothers not only care for their new babies but helping those deliver their babies as well. The professional of midwifery allows mothers to have their baby right in their own home if they so choose and this is something many new mothers are choosing today. There is so much stress on natural childbirth today that many mothers are leaning towards midwifery to help them through a natural childbirth at home.

Nurses do not generally have these capabilities when they are working in a hospital as the doctors provide the help during and the nurse is only there to assist if needed. Although they have learned everything in order to conduct a professionally, in a hospital it is always the doctor. Nurses today who are finding it difficult to find a hospital job are now taking their sight and expertise to different areas of the health system and midwifery is becoming the number one choice for new nurses today. It is a great way to start in the medical field and get the experience you need to either move on the different types of jobs or become a midwife professional.

It is important to be aware that when a midwife sees

you as the mother are experiencing any type of complications they immediately call your practitioner or health care professional you provided them with before the birth. This is a precaution you can count on as midwives are bound legally to your safety. You never have to worry about complications or the health of your baby as midwives and nurses have been fully trained to help you give birth.

As a nurse today you have so many different employment options and midwifery is only one of them, but is becoming the most popular. Take advantage of these different job opportunities as a nurse and see the medical community through many different perspectives.
